Each seller and owner of a business should pay for four expenses. The first expense is sale-related fees. The next expense is related to seller account fees. And the third and fourth expenses are related in order with shipping costs and Amazon FBA Fees. In the following of this article, we are going to talk about the total costs of Amazon FBA. So if you decide to start a business in Amazon for yourself, or are interested in this topic, don’t miss this article.

What Is Amazon FBA?

The attractive way for third-party sellers is Amazon FBA to make it easier for them to ship and fulfill their orders. Amazon ship the product as you sell it. Amazon FBA also provides you with other services such as storing your products, packing them, following the customers’ complaints even return and refund. To receive all of these services and access to the largest marketplace in the world, you should pay Amazon FBA business. This is how it works: You, as a seller, send your products to the warehouses; Amazon FBA will do the rest.

What Are Amazon FBA Fees?

The last update for FBA Fees was implemented in June 2021. Based on that update, most referral fee doesn’t change, but FBA Fee increased about 2% or 3%.

Generally, there are two types of costs for those who are in the FBA business. One of these costs that all sellers must pay is the seller account fee, and another cost is the fees that are dedicated to FBA. In the following of this article, we are going to talk about both costs in detail.

Amazon Seller Account Fees

Amazon provides two plans for the sellers. One is for newbies and who generally the sale of their product is less than 40 items per month. This plan is called individual. It is the best choice for beginners if you don’t need the volume reports and the inventory tools. The other plan is the professional plan suitable for those who sell more than 40 items monthly.

The difference between the individual plan and professional is that you should pay Amazon $0.99 for each sale in the individual plan. In contrast, you should pay a $39.9 monthly subscription fee in the professional plan that is non-refundable; after that, it doesn’t require you to pay Amazon for each sale, and you are free to sell as much as you can. Consider that you must pay this charge even if you don’t have any sales.

Amazon Shipping Costs

It would be great to be careful, as this cost is not the seller’s fee. Amazon pays you a credit, as you ship your orders by yourself.  Compared to shipping rates for shipping each order, the Amazon credit is low.

Below is an Amazon shipping credit chart that gives you an estimation for each product.

Category Standard Expedited Two Days
Books $3.99 $6.99 $14.95
Music $3.99 $6.19 $14.95
Videos $3.99 $6.19 $14.95
DVDs $3.99 $6.19 $14.95
Video Games $3.99 $6.99 Not Available
Software&Computer Games $3.99 $6.99 Not Available
All Other Categories $4.49+$0.50/lb $6.49+$0.99/lb Not Available

For lightweight and small items, the credit is good. But, on every sale of heavy and oversized boxes, it likes you lose. Using shipping software makes it possible to decrease the shipping cost dramatically or increase Amazon’s profit.

Indeed, the shipping cost is the main reason that Amazon sellers turn to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

Sale Related Fees

There are three types of fees for Amazon sellers:

  • Referral fees
  • Closing fees
  • Minimum referral fees

Based on the area of your activity and prices of your products, these costs would be changing.

Referral Fees

Apart from that, Amazon sellers use an Individual account or a Professional one; they should pay referral fees for each item selling on Amazon. The referral fee determines by two factors:

  • Selling price
  • Product category

Generally, a percentage of products’ selling price is referral price, which is mostly between 6% and 45% based on the product’s category. On Average, the majority of the sellers pay about %15 referral fee.

Amazon’s Seller Fee Schedule is a section in Amazon to see referral fees for specific Amazon categories.

Closing Fees

The products which are sold under Amazon media categories charge an additional fee by Amazon. This fee is known as Closing Fee, and is about $ 1.80 fee and added to referral fees for all items under media category such as:

  • Video game consoles
  • Music
  • Books
  • DVD
  • Video
  • Software and computer/video games

Minimum Referral Fees

Some categories have Minimum Referral Fees on Amazon. $1 is the typical amount, but for watch and jewelry categories, it increases to $2. If you sell under a category that has a minimum referral fee, among this fee and referral fee you should pay the greater fees, not both. This fee is according to the product’s selling price.

Fulfillment by Amazon Fees

Amazon provides stock, pick, pack, and ship services to both Individual and Professional sellers. Before you receive the Amazon payout, Amazon FBA fees are deducted from them to cover the cost of serving your business.

Based on the weight and size of your products, the FBA fee varies. According to the Amazon website, the criteria listed in the following must meet by items to qualify for light and small fees.

Size Weight Fee per unit
16 * 9 * 4 inch (or less) Less than 4 oz $3.22

Amazon FBA Fees for Non-Amazon Products

It is possible to use Amazon FBA for selling products on channels other than Amazon. For example, you can sell the products on your dedicated website and use Amazon FBA to fulfill your orders. Amazon will be responsible for the process of storage, picking, packing, shipping, return, and customer service.

The short form of this service is Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF). Because sellers define various shipping options on their websites, Amazon also offers different fees for its MCF service:
